Basic services such as electricity, gas, water, sewage treatment and telephones may be cut off for days or even a week, or longer. Your Emergency supplies kit should contain items to help you manage during these outages.
Be prepared for a power outage by keeping necessary items centrally located in your home. Take the time to ensure that everyone in your family is aware of the "kit." Periodically check your kit to see that batteries operate properly. The following is a list of items that are suggested to keep on hand:
1. Flashlights for each family member
2. Battery-operated radio and clock
3. Extra batteries
4. Containers of bottled water

Yes, your Pet's Paws, Mouth and Stomach, can be burned from Salt and De-icers!
(Frostbite on your Pets paws, can occur as well)
1) Salt and De-icers, can irritate a Pet's paws and cause chemical burns. If ingested it can cause mouth burns and gastrointestinal problems such as vomiting and diarrhea. To keep your Pets from consuming ice melt products on your walks, try to stop them from eating snow and drinking from puddles.
2) Even when using a pet-friendly ice melt on your walkways, it is recommended that you towel off and wipe down your pet’s paws after any time outside to help remove any winter irritants they may have encountered.
3) Make sure to carefully inspect for any snow or ice that may be stuck between your pet’s paw pads.
4) Be careful of Freezing Temperatures. Frostbite can occur with your Pet's Paws.
Don't let dogs eat any of the salt or any of the snow (especially the slushy snow) outside that may have been treated with an ice melt. Wipe your pet's paws as soon as they get inside with a damp cloth or baby wipes. Minimize paw licking until their paws are completely clean

In Honor of Veterans Day, we have our 2nd Veteran, to Honor, at our Veteran Owned and Operated Small Business, SERVPRO of Blackwood NJ/Gloucester Township NJ.
Fred Marinelli, our Owner of SERVPRO of Blackwood NJ and Gloucester Township NJ, is 75 Years old, and continues to work everyday at our Office and Warehouse.
Fred is also a 30 Year Navy Veteran.
Fred is an Inspiration for our SERVPRO Team.
Fred Marinelli also has many years experience of hands-on work in the construction industry and holds the following certificate from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC): Water Removal Technician (WRT). Fred is also a Member of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA).
Before opening our franchise, Fred worked as an engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, a division of the US Navy. In his over 30 year career with the Navy, Fred helped design and implement a more efficient maintenance schedule for the fleet of ships and submarines as well as managing and training employees.
Before working for the Navy, Fred was enlisted in the Navy and was stationed on a Gun Boat and served during the Vietnam War.
When he is not at work, Fred enjoys volunteering at the American Legion Tatem-Shields Post 17 Hall, and working on cars.

A community mural painted by a Gloucester Township resident was recently unveiled on the exterior wall at SERVPRO of Blackwood NJ and Gloucester Township.
The wall was donated by SERVPRO of Blackwood NJ and Gloucester Township, a company specializing in residential and commercial restoration and cleaning services.
The representations on the mural include:
- First responder (butterflies on the Pike represent Police, Fire personnel, Dispatchers, and Military)
- Local businesses
- The Clock Tower at the Glendora Fire Station
- Gabriel Davies Tavern
- Town's baseball and softball organizations.

In observance of Memorial Day, we Remember and Honor those who fought and served our Country.
We also have two Armed Forces Veterans, on our Team to recognize as well, for their service.
The National Moment of Remembrance, is an annual event that asks Americans, wherever they are at 3:00 p.m. local time on Memorial Day, to pause for a duration of one minute to remember those who have died in military service to the United States. The time 3 p.m. was chosen because it is the time when most Americans are enjoying time off of work for the national holiday.

Fred Marinelli, our Owner of SERVPRO of Blackwood NJ and Gloucester Township NJ, is 74 Years old, and continues to work everyday at our Office and Warehouse.
Fred is also a 30 Year Navy Veteran.
Fred is an Inspiration for our SERVPRO Team.
Fred Marinelli also has many years experience of hands-on work in the construction industry and holds the following certificate from the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC): Water Removal Technician (WRT). Fred is also a Member of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA).
Before opening our franchise, Fred worked as an engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, a division of the US Navy. In his over 30 year career with the Navy, Fred helped design and implement a more efficient maintenance schedule for the fleet of ships and submarines as well as managing and training employees. Before working for the Navy, Fred was enlisted in the Navy and was stationed on a Gun Boat and served during the Vietnam War.
When he is not at work, Fred enjoys volunteering at the American Legion Tatem-Shields Post 17 Hall, and working on cars.

1) Salt and De-icers, can irritate a Pet's paws and cause chemical burns. If ingested it can cause mouth burns and gastrointestinal problems such as vomiting and diarrhea. To keep your Pets from consuming ice melt products on your walks, try to stop them from eating snow and drinking from puddles.
2) Even when using a pet-friendly ice melt on your walkways, it is recommended that you towel off and wipe down your pet’s paws after any time outside to help remove any winter irritants they may have encountered.
3) Make sure to carefully inspect for any snow or ice that may be stuck between your pet’s paw pads.
4) Be careful of Freezing Temperatures. Frostbite can occur with your Pet's Paws.

During your Thanksgiving Break, Make sure you Read your Property Insurance policy to see exactly what your responsibilities are—here are some steps to get you started:
1) Report any crime to the police, regarding Possible Vandalism and Burglary.
2) Call your Property insurance company immediately.
3) Promptly fill out claim forms.
4) Have the insurance adjuster inspect the damage. Be prepared to show the adjuster any structural damage and have a list of damaged items ready.
5) Make temporary repairs.
6) Photograph or videotape the damage, then take reasonable steps to protect your property from further damage. Save All receipts, document everything.

Veterans Day (originally known as Armistice Day) is a federal holiday, observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans, which are, persons who have served in the United States Armed Forces (that were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable).
It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War 1. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
Veterans Day is distinct from Memoria Day, a U.S. public holiday in May. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day honors those who had died while in military service.
Another military holiday that also occurs in May, Armed Forces Day honors those currently serving in the U.S. military. Additionally, Women Armed Forces day, is recognized by a growing number of U.S. states that specifically honors women who have served in the U.S. military.

Researchers conducted an ergonomics assessment of 843 university faculty and staff members’ home workstations via an email survey. In addition, 41 employees submitted photos of their workstations for review. Identified as the top ergonomics issues concerning chairs were lack of lumbar support (73%), back support not being used (69%), seat was too hard (63%), and seat was too low or too high (43%).
Sitting in a chair that is the wrong height can result in elevated arms, leaning on the front edge of a desk and poor head position, the researchers noted. They added that back supports and softer seats help assist with proper posture, while not using armrests adds stress to the forearms and upper back.
Other ergonomics issues identified included poor lighting; work surfaces that had hard, sharp edges; and monitors positioned too high, too low or off to the side.
If working at home, you should take a break about every 30 minutes to minimize the risk of injury.
- Place a pillow on your seat if you need more height.
- Use a rolled-up pillow or towel behind your back to provide lumbar/back support.
- Move your chair closer to the desk or table to ensure your back is against the back of the chair.
- Use books or a box to raise a laptop monitor to eye level.
- Standing workstations should include a monitor at eye level, keyboard placed so your forearms are parallel to the ground, and a soft or rounded front edge to the working surface

The CDC Guidelines are: Wearing gloves outside of these instances (for example, when using a shopping cart or using an ATM) will not necessarily protect you from getting COVID-19 and may still lead to the spread of germs. The best way to protect yourself from germs when running errands and after going out is to regularly wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

- Clean surfaces using soap and water, then use disinfectant.

What's Not Covered
Flood insurance has eligibility requirements and numerous exclusions. According to the NFIP, the following kinds of damage are not covered by flood insurance:
- Damage caused by moisture, mildew, or mold that could have been avoided by the property owner or which is not attributable to the flood
- Damage caused by earth movement, even if the earth movement is caused by flood
- Additional living expenses, such as temporary housing, while the building is being repaired or is unable to be occupied
- Loss of use or access to the insured property
- Financial losses caused by business interruption
- Property and belongings outside of an insured building, such as trees, plants, wells, septic systems, walks, decks, patios, fences, seawalls, hot tubs, and swimming pools
- Currency, precious metals, and valuable papers, such as stock certificates
- Most self-propelled vehicles, such as cars, including their parts
Federal flood insurance coverage is also capped at $250,000 per building and $100,000 for contents, though you can purchase policies with lower limits.
There are separate deductibles for your dwelling and contents.

This Saturday August 27th, is the 2nd Annual Touch A Truck event at the Gloucester Premium Outlets located at 100 Premium Outlets Drive in Blackwood. The event is being held from 10am to 2pm. Come out and support your local police, fire and emergency services for a day of fun, big rigs, cool cars and so much more! SERVPRO of Blackwood is excited to participate at the event this year. We will be at the event with our box truck displaying our truck mount extractor and also some drying equipment that we use to restore properties. Also, we are excited to be unveiling our freshly wrapped marketing car to the pubic this day. Stop by our booth and meet our marketing staff and franchise owners. National Night Out

This year we are excited to participate in National Night Out at the Blenheim Fire Department Station 83. The SouthWest Blenheim Neighborhood Watch reached out to us and invited us to participate. We will be joining together with the community, the local fire department, and police to name a few of our local National Night Out sponsors.
This is an annual community-building event that helps to promote safe communities. This event is to remind about police programs in the community like drug prevention, town watch and other anti-crime efforts. Developing relationships with our local police and other emergency responders is important for camaraderie to make our neighborhood a safer and better place to live. The event is from 6-9 pm and there will be snacks, drinks, music, a face painter and fun games and give always for everyone in attendance. On Wednesday June 22, we will be hosting a C.E course for Insurance Professionals. The topic of our course will be Understanding the Restoration Industry: Property Fire Damage Restoration. This will be a four hour, four credit course and the course number is 505645. We will be holding the course at Ollie Gators in Berlin from 11:30-4 and lunch will be provided.
At this course, attendees will learn about the special procedures used by professionals in the mitigating and restoration of fire damaged property.
